Hi Ok if the EGR cooler was leaking then there would be a drop in the coolant level Obvious I cannot see how thick etc the smoke/smog is It sounds like overfuelling due to the symptoms of diesel knock etc It would be worth removing the leak off pipes to clarify if this return valve could be the problems this forces fuel back to the injectors instead of smoothly outthe return to pump Also these

Actually the injectors are a million times easier than the glow plugs. Depending which engine, mine you have to remove throttle body and egr valve and cooler and millions of other things and drain coolant, Injector are a five minute job. Other 2.0 TDCI ford engines glow plugs are at the back of the engine right down there!! And even worse.
